On Saturday, November 13th the Britton Action Club held their annual Snow Queen competition at the Britton Event Center. It was their 75th anniversary of the pageant. The Junior Snow Queen contestants included eight Britton-Hecla freshman: Annika Tank, Ella Bray, Heather Storbakken, Kya McLaen, Mallory Grupe, McKenna Heer, McKenzie Cease, and RaeAnn Hagenson. This year's senior division included two Britton-Hecla seniors: Ashlynn Kraft and Marissa Sumption.
The rigorous competition had the girls’ Saturday full. The day started with the girls rehearsing the walk through and dance. After rehearsal the girls prepared for their interviews in the afternoon. In between interviews, the girls had hair and makeup appointments. By the time it was 7 pm the contestants were ready to go. At the beginning of the program, the girls were announced or introduced themselves, performed a dance, presented their evening gowns and then waited for the judges to deliberate. While that was happening the Little Miss and Little Masters competition commenced. Shea Hastings and Leo Shuller were crowned as the Little Miss and Little Master of the Snow Queen competition.
After the night was over, the new 2022 queens were crowned. Ella Bray and Kya McLaen received first runner up and second runner up respectively. Heather Storbakken became the Junior Snow Queen and Marrisa Sumption became the Senior Snow Queen while Ashlynn Kraft was voted Miss Congeniality. Senior Snow Queen Marissa Sumption shared her experience, “Although I was sick with a sinus infection, I genuinely had a blast competing for the Britton Area Snow Queen. Competing led me to build friendships and connections amongst the other wonderful young women competing, as well as the reigning queens McKenna and Kaegan. I couldn’t recommend taking the opportunity to compete in snow queen enough. I’m excited to continue building relationships and essential life skills throughout my reign!”
