Miss Hennings
My name is Ashley Hennings — soon to be Berreth! The 2026–2027 school year will be the start of my 19th year of teaching and my third year at BHS.
I grew up in Jamestown, North Dakota, home of the World's Largest Buffalo. I loved it so much that I stayed after high school to attend the University of Jamestown — known as Jamestown College when I was there — where I studied Secondary English Education. I graduated in 2008 with a degree in Secondary English Education, along with a Middle School Endorsement and a Writing Concentration.
I taught at Langdon Area Schools in Langdon, North Dakota until 2022. That year, I moved south to what people call the "Banana Belt" — Hecla, South Dakota.
I spent a year teaching at Central High School in Aberdeen before an ELA position opened up at Britton-Hecla in the spring of 2023. I was so glad it did! I teach 6th-Grade ELA and English, 8th-Grade Language Arts, Basic English, and ELA 2. I am also the Funtastic Club (OST) Director and One-Act Play Director.
In my free time, I enjoy reading, shopping, spending time with my fiancé, spoiling my puppy Tilly, and catching up with family.
Teaching is a big part of who I am. I want to be the best teacher I can be, and I believe that good teachers never stop growing. I love bringing new ideas and activities into my classroom each year — and I will be the first to admit that I am not perfect and will make mistakes.
