The Britton-Hecla School District may publish videos/pictures of the students in various school activities on the school website and/or school social media pages. This will make the videos, pictures, and/or student’s pictures/work accessible to anyone on the Internet.

Infinite Campus Parent Portal Policy

Britton-Hecla School District utilizes Infinite Campus’ Parent Portal to further promote educational excellence to enhance communication with parents. The Campus Portal allows parents to view their own child's school records and payment information anywhere at any time.

The Campus Portal is available to every parent or guardian of a student enrolled in the Britton-Hecla School District. Parents are expected to act in a responsible manner and are required to adhere to the following guidelines.

Parents will not share their passwords with anyone, including their own children.

Parents will not attempt to harm or destroy data of their own children, of another user, the school or district network, or the Internet.

Parents will not use the Campus Portal for any illegal activity, including violation of data privacy laws. Anyone found to be violating laws will be subject to civil/ criminal prosecution.

Parents will not access data, or any account owned by another parent.

Parents who identify a security problem with the Campus Parent Portal must notify the office immediately without demonstrating the problem to anyone else.

Parents who are identified as a security risk to the Campus Parent Portal will be denied access to the Portal.

Computer Acceptable Use Policy

Britton-Hecla School is a one-one device district with each student issued a computer or Chromebook that they may use in class or at home depending on grade level and teacher requirements.

Elementary Students

Students in grades K-5 will be issued a Chromebook which will be stored in their classroom.
While students are in the classroom, their teacher will closely supervise both them and their devices. However, there may be times when the device is sent home. During those times, it becomes the shared responsibility of both the student and the parent to take care of the device and ensure it is used appropriately.

Middle/ High School Students

Students in grades 6-12 will be issued a Chromebook (6-8) or laptop computer (9-12) that will travel home with them daily.
Every day they are responsible for using a school-approved padded compartment backpack for transportation, charging their computer, and if something is not working or broken, they must immediately report to the Network Administrator.

I understand that my child’s computer is school property and is tool used for doing schoolwork.

I understand that my child’s actions, content, and files are monitored by the school and the state to protect them and others when using this tool.

If this computer is used to threaten or harass others or for any other illegal purposes, I understand that it will be returned to the school immediately.

I understand that email is a privilege which can be limited or revoked if it abused by students or parents. For student safety, 5th-6th grade students will only be allowed to email staff and students in our school providing time for them to be trained on how to use this tool.

I understand that my child and I are responsible for replacement of any parts that are lost and/or damaged due to neglect or mistreatment.

Neglect or mistreatment includes, but is not limited to the following: cuts, punctures, cracks, use of tools on machines, damage due condensation or heat from extreme temperature - left in vehicles, damage from food, drink, or other substance, or parts broken or missing from the machine or cord.

I understand that I am responsible for the loss of the entire school owned machine. The current values of school owned machines range from $250 - $850 per machine. This cost will be determined with depreciation at the time of loss. Please check with your individual insurance for coverage of device.

I understand that personal stickers are not allowed on my child's school device. Only stickers placed by the school are permitted.

Depending on grade level assignments or virtual school days, students may need to use the Internet at home.

Computer Damage Costs

There are times when technology breaks or fails. The Britton-Hecla School District will cover the costs associated with mechanical failures in these instances.

However, students will be responsible for replacement of any parts that are lost and/or damaged due to neglect or mistreatment. Please note that if a student is responsible for damaging another student's computer the student that caused the damage will be responsible for fees.

Replacement Costs for damages due to neglect, mistreatment, or intentional actions

Power cord - $30
Battery = $50
Screen = $50
Cracked outer case or lid of device= $50
Liquid or debris damage = $25
Broken ports or missing keys = $10 each
Damaged protective cover/ case = $20
Missing or damaged school asset tags = $5 each
Personal Stickers or debris placed on inside or outside of device = $20 for removal
Intentional damage to motherboard = $200

Subsequent incidents and/or damage

If a student has subsequent incidents of damage or neglect, the student will continue to be responsible for the other costs for replacement of broken parts.

Further, a meeting between the student and the administration will be held to determine an individualized plan to address the consequences of their actions.
