Degrees and Certifications:
I graduated from Northern State University with an extended Bachelor of Science major in Communication Disorders. I then attended the University of South Dakota to earn my Master of the Arts in Communication Disorders. I currently work for the North East Services Cooperative at the Britton-Hecla School District. I also work PRN at our local hospital as their speech and language pathologist.
My name is Melody Wenz. I am a speech and language pathologist.
I enjoy teaching students with communication disorders, because it is a diverse field. I get to work with students ages Birth to 21 who have a variety of communication needs. Some of those needs include: voice, articulation, expressive and receptive language, hearing, fluency and cognitive deficits. Most of the students I work with are students who are in the regular education setting. Sometimes I provide therapy for students who have a variety of other diagnosis such as students who have learning disabilities, autism, deafness, visual impairments, and stroke or other brain injuries.
Eventually I would like to become a full time speech and language evaluation specialist. One of my favorite roles is to evaluate students, diagnose their disability, develop a plan, and set up the implementation of that plan.
I like reading, kayaking, mountain hiking, traveling, and almost anyplace I can bask in the sun and float on the water. I can be adventurous and daring at times. I love to see new places and try new things. I also love spending time with my children; Wyman, Caleb, Karli, and grandson Bentley, and watching them start their own careers.
